I've started a series of 11 caricatures for my website. These ones will all be free for now, and afterwards I'll be charging a reasonable sum. But for now, these will promote the service. So the first one, my friend Erica, whose blog you can find on the right sidebar of this blog!

More panels for ya.
I'm getting a little closer to the kind of line weight I want for these panels. The last one especially shows that silky smooth look I'm going for. Anyway, check out the final version HERE if you want to be a cool guy. Thanks a lot sirs and ma'ams.

Next page in line - Trundlers style
So it's been a long week of projects, and I can't say i'm 100% happy with the end product, but it's just something that practice will resolve. I'll show you the sketch of my latest page.
And this is how it turned up as a finished ink drawing.
You can check it out on the website here, or as always, on the link to the right! Thanks y'all.

Shop ready to go. Buy some things you don't need... or do you?
So over on oncetrundlers.com you can now buy prints to download, as well as prints of individual comic pages, just for giggles! How fun is that? Really fun? I dunno, maybe. PROBABLY. Either way, I hope to provide y'all with some form of happiness. Because that's all that matters. And candy, which brings ME happiness. Everybody wins!

Panel 1
So here's the first panel of my webcomic thus far. This is way more hours than it needs to be. Some streamlining is in order. Also, I think I need to give these gentlemen some clothes.
Here's the initial sketch.
And the final ink. Much more work ahead!

Preliminary sketches.
I'm starting a webcomic at the end of the month! It should be fantastic. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be. Anyway, I've just been doing some inking and such for practice, so I'll be uploading various inkings here and there. The coloured versions I'll eventually have up for people to buy prints of if they want! Here is the latest.

Illustration
So I've started messing around a little with digital inking. I did a little sketch here:
And decided I'd like to clean it up and make it look a little finished, so I added some touches:
I'm unsure as to whether or not I'll add anything to it or not, but either way it's some good practice. :D

Some experiments.
Just trying out some various techniques in Painter, all combined into one disgusting monstrosity, which looks a'ight!

Update on life.
I'm sorry I haven't been posting a lot. I will have access to a good camera soon so I can upload some pictures of my recent work.
Additionally, I will be starting a project or two involving straight-ahead animation.
For any folks who don't know what straight-ahead animation is, I'll explain briefly. The basic difference between keyframe animation and straight ahead animation is the dimension of planning and timing. Keyframe animation is structured. You draw two keyframes that represent extremes in a movement. Then you draw a breakdown frame which breaks down these two drawings into a sort of mid-movement pose.

As you continue you draw drawings that go in between the breakdown and the keyframes, making the increments smaller and smaller until you have a wonderful, smooth, perfectly timed animation. Straight ahead animation is pure madness. It works more like a flipbook. You start at frame one and you go forward, without going back to refine anything. There is less structure, and no real way to keep form solid in any meaningful way.
This is perfect for me. I'll be going ahead with no preconceived idea of what I'm going to create, and see where it takes me. If it goes well I'll do a series of them, as well as a marathon event, inspired by a writing marathon done similarly by my friend Sean Conley, which can be found HERE.

Boards
So I'm back on the animation bandwagon, storyboarding away. Within the week I should have this finished and be on to doing my animatic. I may hold off and just show bits and pieces until it's fully completed. We'll see. Here's a section I just did today.
Best of the best.
I never got a chance, to post this, but it's my favourite page from 'Broken'. I like what is conveyed without words.

The Pen is Mightier.
I've been going back to the old standby, ballpoint pen, recently. It's a beautiful tool of commitment, precision, and lack of smudginess. All qualities I admire in a medium.
This is a pretty apt interpretation of how I felt right before going onstage for open mic.
And maybe how I felt after? Dissipating.
This prompted me to get back more into more detailed life drawings.
I'm really digging drawing musicians lately.
Challenging, and full of movement.
Various sketches.
This last one spurred something on in my consciousness.
An awareness that different hatchings can co-exist.
They don't have to stop at each others' borders.
I think I just leveled up, shading-wise.
